What does development mean here?
Skill matters, but the standard reaches further: discipline, confidence, and accountability that hold beyond the game.

Petty Athletics was created to help athletes grow beyond the game through structure, accountability, and consistent development.

Why coaching matters
On origin
From college basketball and injury to youth coaching since 2008.
Rashad grew up playing football and basketball, shaped by a formative youth coach. Those early experiences gave him a foundation in competition, discipline, and the lasting influence a coach can have.
Later, tearing the ligaments in his ankle disrupted the path he had been building. The injury changed his relationship with the game and forced him to face what could come next.
That setback became a turning point rather than the end of his story. Rashad began to see coaching as a way to carry the game forward by helping young athletes grow with purpose.
Over time, his approach to coaching deepened around patience, connection, and trust. The work became not only about teaching skills, but also about reaching athletes as people and supporting their development beyond the game.
Rashad's college basketball path ran from Dundalk Community College (NJCAA, 2003–2005) to a D2 playing career at Salem University (2007–2008), where he played shooting guard and power forward. The playing years taught him what repetition demands: ball handling, footwork, shooting mechanics, positioning, and the humility to keep correcting the same details until they hold under pressure.
The result is not a glossy shortcut. Athletes gain more than improved skills. They build discipline, confidence, and a mindset that extends beyond the game.
Rashad has coached continuously since 2008. He returned to his alma mater, Northwestern High School, in 2010 to work with the boys’ basketball program on skill development, conditioning, and mentorship. From there, the work expanded across Metro All Stars AAU, independent private training, and community programming through the Boys & Girls Club — KLM branch.
What sets Petty Athletics apart is the mindset behind the training. Every experience — success, challenge, injury, and comeback — shapes how Rashad coaches and develops athletes today. The focus is long-term growth, on and off the court.
“Basketball is the tool. Building confident young people is the mission.”

The program's philosophy
Mechanics, footwork, effort, and consistency are the foundation.
Patience and connection shape how the work reaches each person in the room.
Every session starts with the person before the player. Basketball comes second.
Growth only matters if the standard, trust, and local relationships stay intact.
Families are part of the development loop, and communication stays direct.
No shortcuts. Just purposeful reps, feedback, accountability, and time.
